VampirePhone Frequently Asked Questions

How does VampirePhone protect my privacy?

VampirePhone is the most secure, private burner phone available. We take a number of steps to ensure your anonymity.

First, we encrypt all messages using bank-grade AES-256 encryption. Because the encryption is performed using the password you choose, not even we at VampirePhone can read your messages.

Second, we provide you with an option to delete your conversations at any time. When you delete a conversation, we wipe our system clean of any record of the conversation.

Third, we keep no logs of your activity whatsover. We do not keep records of IP addresses or anyhing else that could be used to identify you. You are never required to provide your name, email address, or other contact information. In fact, we do not even use analytics software to track our users' activity.

Fourth, we give you the option to pay with virtual currency.

Finally, we guarantee our users that we will fight for their privacy. We have already retained a respected technology lawyer to represent us in case any privacy issues need to be addressed.

How is VampirePhone different from other burner phone applications?

VampirePhone is the only burner phone application that is truly private and anonymous. Other burner phone companies could read your messages if they wanted to. At VampirePhone, we have no way of reading your messages, because every message is encrypted using the password you choose.

Other burner phone applications require you to reveal your identity. Not only are you required to reveal your actual phone number, but you are also required to pay with credit card, PayPal, Apple Pay, or other method that requires you to reveal your identity. With VampirePhone, you can remain completely anonymous for all purposes.

Further, other burner phone application tracks your activities by IP address. In contrast, we have configured our systems to not log IP addresses or other information that could be used to identify you.

Aren't my text messages sent through the telephone companies? How secure is that?

Let's say that you register a vampire phone, 555-555-5555. When you send a text message from this number, the telephone companies will recognize that the text is coming from 555-555-5555. They will log this number in their systems. In fact, they will also (temporarily) store the contents of your text messages.

However, the telephone company will have no way of knowing your identity. The only thing they will know is that the text message was sent from the company that handles VampirePhone's communications.

Also, all of the major telephone companies will automatically delete the contents of text messages sent through their systems, usually within 30 days.

But, you should be aware that if law enforcement or a private party issues a subpoena to the telephone companies before they delete the contents of your text messages, the telephone companies may turn over the contents of your messages. Therefore, if you send a text that says "Meet me at my house, at 1010 Main Street," you may very well be at risk of giving away your identity.

If this concerns you, then you should simply use our end-to-end encryption feature (discussed below).

How does your end-to-end encryption feature work?

For the vast majority of our users, our standard security measures are sufficient. But if you are, for example, a human rights activist, you might be seriously concerned about the government attempting to uncover your activities. For those users, we offer end-to-end encryption.

Here's how it works: when you and another party both register vampire phones, all communications between those two phone numbers will go directly through VampirePhone; the communications will not pass through any telephone companies. Accordingly, if law enforcement issues a subpoena to a telephone company, the telephone company will simply have no records of your conversations. And if law enforcement issues a subpoena to VampirePhone, we also will have no access to your communications, because they are all encrypted with bank-grade AES-256 encryption.

Of course, in order for this to work, both you and the other party will need to be Vampire Phone users.

How can I tell if my communication channel is being end-to-end encrypted?

Easy. On the text message screen, you will see a "privacy" indicator. If the indicator says "Vampire," then the other user is also a VampirePhone user and your communications are end-to-end encrypted. If it says "Mortal," then your communications will be sent through the phone lines.

What happens if I forget my password?

If you forget your password, you are out of luck. Most websites give you the ability to reset your password via email, but we do not collect our users' email addresses. If you forget your password, we won't be able to assist you. We regret this, but it's necessary in order for us to ensure your anonymity.
